MÜTTER MUSEUM
WELCOME GALLERY

This exhibition redesign reintroduces the Mütter Museum’s mission, history, and enduring relevance through a bold, visually immersive update to its welcome space. Installed within the richly paneled architecture of the College of Physicians, the project balances reverence and reinvention—fusing anatomical illustration, historical artifacts, and bold cellular textures to tell a living story of medicine.

ANATOMY & IDENTITY

Large-scale illustrations of the human body frame the entrance, connecting visitors immediately to the museum’s medical focus. These anatomical forms, paired with color-rich textures inspired by tissue samples and microscopy, create a layered visual language that feels both archival and contemporary.

OBJECT CASES & CONTEXT

Minimalist vitrines display iconic tools of medicine—including microscopes, surgical kits, and early diagnostic instruments—framed by interpretive panels that place each object in historical and human context. The balance of text and artifact invites close reading without overwhelming casual visitors.

LEGACY IN PLACE

Rather than masking the classical interior, the redesign leans into it—letting dark wood, marble, and traditional finishes set the stage for bright overlays of science and story. Typography, illustration, and design details amplify the museum’s voice while respecting the gravitas of the setting.
